The Kooks (UK)
26th May 2017, 20:00, Mala Sportovni Hala, Prague
Bad habits, indie rock, only the best. The Kooks are returning to Prague! May of this year will not only be the time of love, but mainly the time of some great music, and the fans of The Kooks can start celebrating – this band will play Prague’s Mala Sportovni Hala on 26th May. We all can look forward to the best of the band’s discography and their electrifying headline show, for the first time ever in the Czech Republic. The Kooks were formed in 2004 in Brighton, UK, and went on to gain mainstream media attention and popularity very quickly. After mere three months after forming the band, a deal with Virgin Records came along, and the debut album Inside In/Inside Out was released in 2006. It was this record that catapulted the band right to the top of mainstream music: the album went five times platinum in the UK (as of last month), double platinum in Ireland, and platinum in Australia. The same year saw The Kooks becoming the Best UK & Ireland Act at MTV Europe Music Awards, as well as picking up a nomination at The Brit Awards. The second album Konk (2008) debuted at Number 1 of the UK Chart and went on to receiving the Gold status; its successor Junk of the Heart saw the light of the world three years later, and the newest album Listen was released in 2014. The Kooks are primarily influenced by the mix of the British invasion, Mersey beat and post-punk, label themselves as a pop band, and are labeled by others as indie pop-rock. However, their range of genres is much wider: during their career, the band have dipped themselves into many different styles, from straight-forward guitar-driven songs, via trips to reggae, ska and Britpop, and on to funk, soul and hip-hop. Nevertheless, any label we use, one thing is certain: Prague can expect songs that are ‚catchy as hell‘ during a stunning show by one of the best British bands of today, currently consisting of Luke Pritchard, Hugh Harris, Peter Denton, and Alexis Nuńez. We will hear the greatest hits as well as b-sides and hidden gems, plus a series of new tracks The Kooks have been working on in the studio over the last year.
